Happy Spring Freeskiers!

Today was the vernal equinox, and it felt like it was out there this week. Tonight, they are calling for a few inches of snow, but this weekend looks to be warm and sunny. We are in the true spring swing so be ready for the snowpack to be harder in the morning softening throughout the day. There is a huge race both days this weekend at Smuggs, so be aware of keeping shared spaces clean and our skis picked up while we are at the club. Parking may be an issue as well.

Junior Freeride Championships: The invites for JFCs went out yesterday and there was a solid number of SNSC athletes that received an invite in the first round. Let’s give a huge round of applause to our athletes that rank in the top tier of all the Americas (North and South America):

U15 Ski Women: Myriam (10), Ceili Grey (36)

U15 Ski Men: Hazen (4), Levi F (49), Matt A (53), Mac (55)

U19 Ski Women: Cally (29)

We also have three athletes that will be representing SNSC at the JFC- U12 Championships at Kirkwood: Last year’s Champion Ben will be joined by his teammates Warren and Charlie.

We are all stoked for all these athletes and can’t wait to see them compete out west! If you see these athletes around Smuggs the next two weeks make sure to congratulate them on all their hard work and wish them luck in Kirkwood.

Important note for those heading to Kirkwood: A beacon is going to be required for all coaches and athletes to get on to the Cirque at Kirkwood. Not sure if the final venue will be on a piece of the Cirque or not yet for the U12s but keep this in mind. A shovel and probe may be required as well. If an athlete isn’t used to skiing with a backpack (or vest) use the time the next few weeks to get used to it, in case they must use one in Kirkwood. Let me know if you are having trouble in finding a beacon/ shovel/ probe/ backpack(vest) for your athlete.
