Dec 20-21 | Week 2 for Comp and U12 | Week 1 for MTN

19 Dec 2025 by Ashley Maxfield

Hello Freeskiers!
This update is coming out a little later than normal. I was trying to see how this storm was shaping up before I sent this out. Here are the details:
We are currently experiencing power outages in the area and at the mountain due to the high winds. As the second part of this storm moves in this afternoon they are calling for a flash freeze. The conditions on the mountain tomorrow will depend on what type of snow comes at the backend of the storm. However the snow ends up falling, one thing is for sure, the base will be rock hard underneath. Because of this there is a possibility of a delayed opening tomorrow, we will keep you posted on what's going on and if we have to pivot our plans. This also means that everyone should make sure that their edges are sharp and be willing to work with whatever terrain may be open.

Comp and U12 had an amazing first week of programming, getting to ski most everything and chasing pow. This weekend we will start focusing on how to bring our technique to the next level. Getting our hands out in front of us, getting into the athletic stance and using the front of our boots. We will build on what we already have and improve where we can. We will be training both days 9:30-2pm. We will meet in the space in between the rail barn and the clubhouse.
MTN team this is the first weekend for mountain team! So excited for you all to start training this week. They will be meeting at 9:30am in the yurt each day this weekend. You all will meet the coaching staff each morning and start your day from the yurt. Training will be 9:30-2pm. See Keith's email for more info.

Comp Registrations: As we saw with the Jay 2* there are a lot of athletes signing up for comps this year. 162 athletes signed up for Jay with only 100 athletes allowed in. There is one less 2* during the normal season than last year, this might cause some issues getting into comps. As a reminder that 2* events are filled 50% by seeding and 50% by timestamp. You could have seeding points and still not necessarily get into a comp if you register near the end of the 72 hour window. My advice is that if an athlete has comps that they really want to do, get on right when the comp opens and register. I know that it's not always possible, but try your best to do it that first night.

I have created an excel sheet for everyone to mark down which comps they are planning to go to this season. I'm hoping to have a better way to track which athletes are going where this season so that we can make sure we have enough coaching coverage at the comps as well as carpooling if needed. I have also shared this in the under the documents tab (here on the app). When you have a chance can everyone fill this out? Thank you!

GOALS:
Now that we have one weekend under our belt, I would like each athlete to fill out a goals form:
SNSC Athlete Development Form
This form will help the coaches figure out your goals and how we can help each athlete achieve those goals. I would like these done before the new year. The sooner we get these done the quicker we can implement these into training.

Let me know if you have any questions, See you all this weekend!
